  • Greetings Scotty,
  • I'm looking to buy a 92 escort wagon with auto trans, 72k miles, 2nd owner who says original owner was elderly and only put 30k miles on it then bought for daughter first car who did the rest. Looks excellent with new tires and rear shocks. They're asking $3k which seems double what it should be. Curious about that auto trans and overall vehicle life?

Despite the low mileage, it is too old. Also consider that the second wonder bought it for her daughter, which I assume she was a young driver at the time. I don’t think this is a good deal.

Hy!

If you want it, have it checked by a mechanic. Yaser already warned you it is an old car. You can expect bunch of repairs if you buy it. Owner can say whatever he wants.

Be leery if it really has only 72k miles. I'm familiar those have 5-digit odometer. That means it turns around every 100k miles. So it can have 72k or 172k or 272k etc.

If you live in U.S., I think $3k is way too much. Maybe 1000 bucks (that is maximum what I would pay in Europe if it were in excellent shape). But for that money you can get decent newer car.

Good luck.
