Hello, My car suddenly blew white smoke on a short trip 1/2 mile then started running rough. I've checked the dip stick, oil filler cap and coolant none show signs of contamination. I started it today and it runs a little smoother and way less white smoke. It may not be a head gasket. Any ideas? Thanks
If you are blowing white smoke then you are burning coolant/water. Only way that happens is head gasket or cracked head/block. This can happen with out water and oil mixing. You need to drain your oil to be sure as oil sits on top of water. If you pull the drain plug and water is first thing out then you have a worse leak. If you are sure water isn’t leaking into your oil you can get a mechanic to run bars stop leak head gasket sealer. It’s a hail mary pass vs. installing a new head gasket. If it works I’ve seen it last years. If water is leaking into your oil it will seize up your motor. I’d have a mechanic check to be sire before using the bars leak.
Pull your spark plugs and see which ones are wet with coolant. Blown head gasket. It is not going to get better.
