DRIVING ME NUTS. HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, FUEL FILTER, SEARCHED FOR VACUUM LEAKS AND REPLACED ANY LINES THAT LOOKED BAD AT ALL, CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY AND AIR INTAKE THOROUGHLY, BYPASSED FUEL PUMP RELAY, REPLACED AIR FILTER, OIL PRESSURE SWITCH, THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR, MAP SENSOR, DISTRIBUTOR (including pickup coil, cap and rotor and ignition control module), IGNITION COIL, ENGINE COOLANT TEMP SENSOR, AND O2 SENSOR. CHECKED PCV, EGR APPEARS TO BE FUNCTIONING, CHECKED FUEL PRESSURE - WITHIN LIMITS BUT TAKES SEVERAL MINUTES TO REACH CORRECT PRESSURE AT THE THROTTLE BODY FUEL INLET, AND PRESSURE DROPS IMMEDIATELY TO ZERO. HAYNES SAYS LEAKING INJECTOR BUT NOT TOTALLY SURE I TESTED CORRECTLY. THROTTLE BODY WAS REBUILT 2 YEARS AGO

AS AN EXAMPLE OF IMPROV IN EMERGENCY TACTICS I'VE HAD TO EMPLOY TO AVOID TOTAL DISASTER, I ONCE PLUGGED THE REAR WHEEL BRAKE LINE IN MY 84 TOYOTA PICKUP AFTER THE WHEEL CYLINDER BLEW APART USING A SIMPLE 45 CALIBER LEAD BULLET. IT THREADED RIGHT IN, HELD PERFECTLY AND GOT ME HOME SAFELY. NOW OF COURSE I WOULDNT ADVISE ANYONE DO THAT THEMSELVES BECAUSE OF THE OBVIOUS DANGER DRIVING WITH A LESS THAN PERFECT HYDROLIC BRAKE SYSTEM, BUT IT DEMONSTRATES MY CREATIVITY UNDER PRESSURE. ON ANOTHER OCCASION GTHE ORING SEALS ON MY THROTTLE BODY WERE DAMAGED WHEN I REPLACED A BAD INJECTOR. IT WAS AFTER 11:00 PM, I WAS STUCK IN A SMALL TOWN AND HAD TO BE IN COURT 200 MILES AWAY THE NEXT MORNING. THERE WERE NO AUTO PARTS STORES, HARDWARE STORES OR ANYTHING OPEN AT THAT HOUR IN THAT TOWN EXCEPT THE ADULT NOVELTY STORE (SEX SHOP). THE O RINGS WERE ABOUT 1" IN DIAMETER. IT THEN DAWNED ON ME THAT MANY WATERPROOF VIBRATORS ARE ABOUT THAT SIZE IN DIAMETER AND WOULD HAV TO HAVE SOME SORT OF O RING SEALS TO MAKE THEM WATERPROOF. OFF TO THE ADULT STORE I WENT, FOUND TWO WATERPROOF TOYS WITH O RINGS, TOLD THE CLERK THERE WAS NO NEED TO TEST THE TOYS BEFORE I LEFT BECAUSE I WAS JUST INTERESTED IN THE O RINGS, AND DAMN IF THEY WERENT THE PERFECT SIZE TO SEAL THE LEAKING THROTTLE BODY. AGAIN NOT SUGGESTING THAT PEOPLE DO THINGDS THE WRONG WAY BUT SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO MACGUYVER A PROBLEM UNTIL YOU CAN DO IT RIGHT.....JUST SAYIN......

It sure sounds to me like somebody sold you a defective fuel pump (or perhaps your fuel tank had a lot of rust/dirt in it).
