Hi Scotty, have a 96 GMC suburban 194,000 miles, automatic.
Noticed rear end noise, opened the differential and spider gears are torn up
Would it be possible to find an open differential carrier from a junkyard and swap them easily, or is the axle casing different for the g80
Would the stock shims still be in spec with the new carrier,
Or is there a better route to take to fix them

Same housing, but you would have to re-setup the gears and shims.
It's easier to swap the entire axle.
