Hi Scotty,
My friend replaced the following:::>>> because when engine was getting to operating temp was shutting down:
- fuel pump
- wires
- spark plugs
- ignition coil.
- I've replaced the ignition amplifier located in the distributor housing. That fixed the stalling only not the HCs. I did replace with OEM part.
Also:
- No driving or performance issues detected on all of the running condition including idle.
- Compression (PSI) dry was 165, 155, 155, 165; Honda factory service manual calls for 200.
- Compression wet on no 4 went to 270 and quickly dismissed that as an erroneous reading. I did put 10 CCs of oil in the cylinder and was thinking clogged my compression tester so I did not continue on the other cylinders.
- Oxygen sensor upstream swings from lean to rich OK. Note I dismissed the oxygen sensor being lazy for at higher RPM the HCs came down. If the oxygen sensor would be lazy I'd suspect the opposite.
- Oxygen sensor downstream pretty steady so dismissed the catalytic converter being bad. BTW no NOX on smog reported
- The MAP sensor reads ok with voltmeter, and responds good when throttling.
- Checked for vacuum leaks with brake cleaner on all vacuum hoses behind the engine for manifold intake and all over including the brake booster but no RPM change was detected at all.
- Fuel trim on both Short and long went to -3% indicating YES rich condition at 1500 and 2500 RPM. I know should be close to Zero.
- Freeze frame time advance was at 13 deg 750 RPM battery 14.4V
- Replaced the oil and filter.
- Also my friend told me that he performed three smogs checks (LOL) all came about the same. On one of the tests the HC came to 103 ppm using 87 gasoline. Only 3 ppm over the passing
What else am I not doing or not doing right? LOL I'm more of a theoretical mechanic and not hands on. I do fix my own cars though when not over my head like this one
I've been watching your youtube channel for 10 years now but never posted any questions.
I did watch your videos on vacuum leaks detection, MAP sensor cleaning and checking, Oxygen sensor testing, compression testing and many others. You do an outstanding job with the videos
Thank you. and Happy New Year!!!!
Dan
NO engine codes detected or misfires or stumbling
Almost forgot.
No engine codes, miss fires or stumbling.
Clean the catalytic converter. (Scotty recently had a video on that), and then use premium gas for couple of tank refills. Hope it helps.
