I'm in a bit of a predicament with a 98 Honda accord 3.0L v6 with 230,000 miles.
The car cranks fast as it always did, now without starting once it's shutoff anywhere.
It has a engine rattling sound and smoke out of the oil cap if warmed up fully. It can't be driven far anymore without hearing that rattling sound eventually. I've tried a fresh oil change, PCV valve, coils, spark plugs.
but what about the possibility of the valve stem seals?
Do a wet vs. dry compression test. That will tell you if your rings are worn out.
Also, get a leak down test to see if it's the rings or the valves.
Your motor is toast-bad piston rings. Time for a new car.
Blue smoke is a sign of oil burning. Hopefully, it's just some worn out valve stem seals and not the rings.
but what about the possibility of the valve stem seals?
Did you check them?
I have not checked them, considering how cheap they are it would be a waste to lose the car over them.
I had a blue tinted smoke when its hard to start the car up after it just drove.
Blue smoke means it is burning metal or oil or both, can be bad gasket.
