Jerky acceleration, lacks power, hard shifts

Hey Scotty, I bought a 99 dodge Dakota sport it’s got 130,000 miles on it. When I drive it takes a while to get up in speed and jerks when I accelerate on the gas. Also when I put in gear it’s a hard shift to another gear. I took it to the mechanic shop to have it looked at they replaced the intake gasket and it’s still doing the same thing. It’s the 5.2 liter V8 model. I think the car may need a tune up or it could be the fuel injectors needing replaced but I’m not sure I spent 4700$ on the truck and after the gasket replacement I had to put another 1500$ in the vehicle, what would you recommend Scotty?

Get it scanned for codes at any major auto parts store.  Use that as a starting point to solve the problem.  You got ripped off having the intake manifold gasket replaced.  You most likely have a transmission problem at the very least.

it needs proper diagnosing by a competent mechanic. Something that can't be done over the internet.

Since you're paying to have the work done, it won't be cheap and I'm not sure you want to spend that kind of money on a 23yo Dakota.

Always have vehicles inspected BEFORE you buy.
