Understand this, I have owned many makes of used cars over the last 50 plus years and there is one simple truth about all of them.
Any used car you buy is going to need some repair. Thats it. So when you go car shopping , remember to save some cash to do immediate repairs as they are needed. Otherwise you will be disappointed in your purchase.
Yes, get it checked out by a mechanic to find deal breaking flaws but don't be put off if it needs tires, or shocks, or a tune up. all things made by man eventually wear out.
Do your homework. Go to car complaint sites to narrow down your search. Ask people here.
Will you find a "Forever Car?. anything is possible but more possible is "A Pretty Good Car"

My last used vehicle came with a 3 month dealer warranty, so I made the dealer do all the cosmetic repairs.
It was also still under factory powertrain warranty (which I didn't need)
in fact, I notice a rain leak SIX months after I bought it, and they fixed that free of charge too.
and that was over 4 years ago. I haven't had any major repairs since then. No tune ups. Runs like a top. I changed the rear shocks last year. This is why I bought a newer, low mileage vehicle. So that I didn't end up with a money pizza. I work out of my vehicle so I depend on it for my livelihood. I don't have time to mess around.

i bought a beater corolla, replaced brakes, bearings, serpentine belt, rear light assembly, couple tires, coolant, and ATF 😆
(have family who like to crash their cars so i have to have something ready to go, this is the 3rd crisis car)
My bud got his daughter a new escort [ she only knew gas and brake] and got the car replacement insurance for it. After she destroyed 3 of them in 12 months the insurance company 😡 dropped him! Go figure!
