I have a 1992 500 SL Mercedes. My ABS and ASR lights come on after moving about 40 feet forward with the car. I can drift in neutral and they will come on. But, I can drive around the block in reverse and they won't come on. Sometimes the lights shut off and the car runs very smoothly, except the brakes pulse. The brakes don't pulse when the those lights are on.
Recently the car would flicker and shut off. Usually it will start right back up. But, last time it would not start. It acted like it wasn't getting fuel. I tried starting it for 4 days. Then I decided to drift it backwards for about 40 yards and it started right up.
This may sound unusual to you, but it's quite normal in my life. 🙂
Sure it's normal for those crazy German cars with bizarre electrical systems as they age. Big reason I tell people not to buy them
