AC and Gas mileage

Topic starter

Hi, I have a 2016 Honda Pilot with 68k miles on the clock. I bought it on winter this year, never used the air conditioning.

Now that's getting wormer and I'm using the AC, I've noticed gas mileage is worse. I was getting 29 mpg on the highway without AC, now I'm getting 27 mpg.

Why the AC deteriorates gas mileage?

Just a wild guess here, maybe because it takes energy to run the AC compressor.

There are no free lunches in life. But you will be happy to learn that rolling down the window has a similar effect on fuel economy.
