I have a ac compressor that lock up... I have Freon in the system. The mechanic says I need to change out everything...for a year warranty and he will only charge me 900.00 is that a good deal. That includes the compressor, condenser, orifice, evaporator. But I will need to buy the compressor and orifice.
He is correct about replacing everything. When a compressor locks up it sends pieces of metal and debris into the air conditioning system. Parallel-flow condensers and evaporators cannot be flushed out, they need to be replaced. It sounds like a pretty good price since on most cars those components can require a lot of labor to replace. Stay away from rebuilt compressors and buy a new one. Even if it's a Chinese knockoff (like UAC brand) it's better than a rebuilt one.
