I was sitting in traffic during hot weather with my air conditioning on max ac. Then the car jumped forward; almost thought I was bumped from behind. Then my ac stopped blowing cold and there was a smell that I thought was coolant at first. Pulled over and checked for coolant leaks but there was not any. My question is does ac refrigerant smell similar to coolant?

Well it doesn't smell similar but realize if your AC compressor locked up that's going to make it bump and stuff. But of course if your engine is overheating it will do the same thing wait a little cools down see if you have lost any coolant in your radiator if that's totally full odds are your compressor blue for the AC
