Accord vs Avalon

Hi Scotty,

Thank you for your time and willingness to share your talent.

I’m looking to purchase either a used 2011 Toyota Avalon or a 2013 or 2014 Honda Accord.  All three are around 100k miles (the 2014 Accord has the most miles at 101k).

I’ve read on car complaint sites that:

(Most, if not all) Hondas are huge oil guzzlers BUT they still get better gas mileage than the Toyota Avalon.  I’m leaning toward one of the higher gas mileage running Hondas...

Would my best course of action be to just have extra (Honda) oil on hand?

WWSD??

What Would Scotty Do??

2013 Accord has some more problems according to carcomplaints but it is the first year I personally would go Avalon if comfort>sportiness and Accord if vise versa. I would look for a 2015-2017 Accord though but that is just me. Or you could meet in between and get a V6 Camry, just food for thought. Also don't listen to the guy above who told you to get a Chrysler 300.

Isn't 2013 when Honda started using the Earth Dreams motor?  I wouldn't touch one.  2012 Accord 4 cyl, perhaps with a manual.  Or the best deal on an Avalon.  Maybe a V6 Camry.

Assuming the two check out,  I’d do Accord, but that’s just based on aesthetics.

I'd go Avalon of the two, but I would also consider looking at your local Chrysler 300 inventory because even though they are poorly made, they don't burn oil like the Honda, and you can usually get them for a song and a dance compared to the Toyota. Just food for thought.

How long do you plan on keeping the vehicle and how many miles are you hoping to put on?
