Acorn nut on valve cover keeps spinning

Hi everyone!

I have a Crv 2010 lx awd

I was trying to do a valve adjustment and I think I messed up some bolts.

Putting the valve cover back on, I screwed the acorn nuts (10mm hex) too tight and I think I stripped 2 of them (the middle one in the front and the one right next to it’s side by the passenger side. They keep spinning regardless of whether I try to loosen or tighten them. all the other ones are tight. They seem to somehow still be working as the valve cover seems to still be tight with the gasket at the bottom.

1- is it safe to drive?

2 - wondering what to do here. Just try and get the acorn nuts off and put new ones on? New acorn nut and bolt? Kinda worried I messed up the thread which I would have no idea how to deal with.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Find someone with a tap and die set . You may have stepped the threads on the two bolts. Have a mechanic retread ( slightly smaller diameter) replace with new nuts to match.

Check your oil level. If it’s correct you may drive your CRV. but check to make sure your not pushing oil out of the valve cover.

I would definitely fix those two lossy goosey nuts.

Thanks! Any sense of what the repair cost would come out to?
