Acura J37 V6 motors and oil consumption?

Is this widespread with these motors.  Is it caused by cylinder de-activation like on the Accords with automatic trans (but not a problem with the manual trans)?

 

Should I just stay away from this motor entirely on an Acura TL manual transmission?

 

Any incite?
