Hi Scotty,
I will soon be moving from California across the country to North Carolina. Because everyone else has the same idea right now, renting a truck for a DIY move is RIDICULOUSLY expensive. I'm a single guy without too much stuff anyway, so it seems like a better idea to just buy a cheap tow vehicle, pull all of my belongings on a trailer, and then maybe sell it when I get to my destination to recoup some of the costs of moving. What vehicles do you recommend I search for that will get this done as cheap and reliably as possible?
Thanks!
If you want a tow rig without breaking into to much of your saving early/mid 90s Ford or Chev would be good. Obviously get it checked out, especially the transmission.
Well, pickups and SUVs are particularly high priced right now. How about a Ford Crown Vic? Whatever you do, take it easy over the Rockies - very hard on old/cheap tow vehicles.
One thing to keep in mind is that the kind of rust-free cars you see in Cali are rare back East, so that might be a hand you want to play.
I'll likely be avoiding the rockies and taking the southern route for this very reason. Good suggestions, thank you!
