2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD - engine power fails when towing

All,

Our company bought a new 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD.

- Heavy Duty Work/Tow package / V8.

- 21,000 miles

The failure has happened twice now.

- While Towing 8,000+ lbs

- Highway

- about 2 hours into the trip the engine pulls / power fails and have to pull over and swap out with another company truck (2014-1016 GMC 2500 HDs with 130,000+ miles and no such problems) to finish the trip.

- To make it worse, we pay for the Onstar OVI system to report diagnostic issues.  The OVI doesn't log or pick this failure up at all!!!  Which makes this even more infuriating.

The Chevy dealership where we got it usually has a strong service department for all of our company GMC trucks we take there.  But, in this case, they say they can't identify the issue and can't help because they can't recreate the failure - by the time they get it the issue is not actively happening.  And, they test drove it but couldn't trigger it again -- of course this happens when towing long haul distances and they won't let us take a trailer to the dealership to let them recreate the issue.  They called a Chevy engineer but told us that  if the issue happens again to take it straight there and they could possibly id the issue and might possibly have a Chevy engineer come there.

That sounds great except we have a busy construction company and cant put our employees in harms way to tow the trailer again, especially at long distances, and risk the engine failing and causing an accident or being stranded roadside.

Any insights on what the issues might be?

Suggestions on how to navigate this issue and what best options would be to get absolute resolve?

This is an expensive item, $65,000+ so would greatly appreciate your expertise and support on this issue.

Well it shows what a line of horse manure those people have. You paid all that money. They should road test until it acts up and then fix it. But they really don't give a crap that would solve the whole thing. Let him tow something till it acts up and then they could have a mechanic check it out but they don't want to go through that trouble. That's why I tell people not to buy GM crap.

@scottykilmer You're right. I'll press them on that and write an email to them then call.

Scotty, the GMC 2500 and 3500s we have from 2014-2016 have been rock solid we tow heavy duty scaffolding on tlabed trailers everyday. Do you think the Ford heavy duty trucks are a better route these days? What do you recommend for these duties - hauling steel, tools and people?

Actually, I forgot to mention they are finding error code P0747 yet still said they can't help unless the issue is actively happening......so they told me.
