Just bought a 2012 Acura MDX and it says that it requires premium gasoline, can I just used regular gas instead..?
Double check the verbiage of the owner's manual.
Some say premium is REQUIRED. Some say premium is RECOMMENDED. And some will say you can use other octane ratings.
REQUIRED means you should probably stick to premium.
RECOMMENDED means you may*** be able to use other octane ratings.
Even if your owner's manual says that Premium fuel is "recommended" as opposed to "required" you may want to consider splitting the difference and using Plus/Mid-Grade gasoline. That's what I do and really can't feel the difference between that and Premium. If regular gasoline is used I can feel the engine management system reducing power when accelerating to prevent detonation.
Use what the owner's manual says. If premium fuel is required, put in premium. You can't drive an Acura and skimp on regular gas if the owner's manual says premium fuel required. Those are rich people cars.
