If your car does not require premium fuel the only effect of using it will be to increase the speed at which money flows out of your wallet.

Incorrect. All fuel grades at the station have the same detergent package. All fuel grades, including regular, are regulated by law to have a certain amount of detergent which is necessary to keep the engine clean and running smoothly.
