I have 5500$ to spend on a vehicle, in your opinion, would you choose a 2002 Rav4-L @ 154,000 mls, or 2008 Ford Escape 155,00 mls, or 2010 Mercury Mountaineer Premier@ 145,000 mls, which he says is a 4cylinder, Im at a loss, I want to make a wise decision, although I realize it's a gamble, Thanks

I forgot to add they're all approx $5,550

Between those three, I'd go with the Rav4. The Ford Escape in those years were decent, my aunt got over 250k out of her 2010 and it's still going. She's had it since new and does all maintenance on the nose. The Toyota will well outlast the Escape if it was maintained. Have a mechanic check the car out that you want to buy.

The Mountaineer is an upscale Ford Explorer, with either a V6 or V8, they didn't have 4 cylinder models. It probably will have similar issues to the Explorers sooner or later, they got the nickname Ford Exploder for a reason.

Thank you I was kina thinking the same, just the 2002 threw me off a lil, I have no mechanic to ask, that's why I'm reaching out😇

Yeah, the '02 is older but all else being equal it's prior to Toyota's oil burning problems and still likely to last longer than the others. Do find a mechanic though to check it out first, those are good vehicles but if it's been abused or flooded some time over the last 20 years it could develop serious problems.

No problem! Good luck! As Chuck says, definitely get it checked out professionally before buying, just to make sure no problems are hiding. As Scotty loves to say, you can't hide problems from the scanner.

I tend to agree between those three choices. RAV4 > Escape >>> Explorer.  Assuming it all checks out.

IMHO, the Ford Escapes between 2001–2011 were probably the better Escapes. It was built in collaboration with Mazda, and depending how you look at it, the Escape is a rebadged Mazda, or the Tribute is a rebadged Ford.  But I still prefer the RAV4.
