I have a 2004 Ford Expedition 5.4Triton 2WD and I’m trying to install a new alternator but the plug is different than the original, and was told by the new alternator manufacturer to splice the new and old wires together, but the new one only has 2 of 4 wires I “need” and the old plug has 3 wires going into it, and after splicing, I’m receiving a check charging system message on the dash. What can I do to make the charging system work again?

I would return it and buy one with the correct plug
