Hi Scotty,
My 20 year old brother is looking to buy a used 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 for $12,000. It has 88,250 miles on it with a HEMI Magnum 5.7L V8 and an SMPI 5-Speed Automatic transmission. He wants it for hauling things around, he's very active with golfing, trips to the mountains, desert, etc. We live in Southern California and have access to a lot of recreational activities. Do you think it's a good buy? I'm hoping he can get it for cheaper but I'm not sure. Thank you.
No way in hell, especially at that price.
If he wants to shell out that much, look at Toyota trucks instead.
Yep, even though that’s not a lot of miles it sounds overpriced. The TFL guys are currently doing a “cheap truck” series that includes a Dodge Ram of that vintage, along with a Ford and Chevy. The upshot is that the Chevys then were pretty solid (though have gone downhill), and the dodges were ok but less solid (and have really gone down).
Well you are in California so prices are going to be inflated. That being said, I still think that's a high price and they are only asking it because it has Laramie stamped on it.
I would look at Tundras. For that money you can get a good one that will last you.
