Hey Scotty. So I recently installed a Chinese carplay stereo on my 2008 Lexus IS250. When I installed the stereo I ran into an issue with the physical climate controls around the screen and included backup camera not working or lighting up. However, the touchscreen climate controls do work from the ac app. I messaged the aliexpress seller who thinks it’s because I never plugged in the OBDII connection. I chose not to plug into OBDII because I heard from one of your videos that leaving something plugged into the OBDII port can damage the electronics of a car. Is it safe to leave something plugged into that port all the time in order to power some of the functions of a stereo? Since it’s not a bluetooth insurance dongle like you mentioned in your video. I also set the stereo to no sleep so it does the full restart every time I start the car so there’s no power draw when the car is off.
Is it safe to leave something plugged into
There are definitely no guarantees with Chinese garbage from aliexpress

Plug it in, and see if he's right.

Yeah, Scotty was clear that leaving junk plugged into the diagnostics port is not great for your car.

Eh you already have the stereo and it's some old 2008 model year car... so I personally would plug it in.
