My girlfriend just replaced the alternator on her 2005 Toyota Camry v6 with 114k miles but the airbag light came on. Can it be ignored? if not how do we turn off the light?

No idea. It's just a warning light. The conditions that trigger the light are numerous.
You don't want an airbag exploding in your face.
if not how do we turn off the light?
By fixing the problem.
First, your car needs a full diagnostic scan with a professional tool to see why the light came on.
