Hi Scotty, love the heck out of your videos,so much great practical info in that head of yours. I have a 2008 lexus ls460 with 177,000 mi on it. Just bought it not too long ago real cheap. I see why it was so cheap now. Haha ,I assume there is alot of internal engine wear because I am using a quart of oil every 500 miles. Changed the oil and put high mileage synthetic in it as a start. Doing any internal engine work or replacing the engine is not an option. Before I do a compression test I wanted to replace the pcv valve which I have read could be the problem or a big part of the problem if it is stuck closed. My question is could I inject with a syringe into the hose leading to the valve with wd 40 or some other solvent to open it up? Maybe 2 or 5ml of the stuff instead of taking over 4 hrs of labor to change it. Can I screw anything up? The hose is fairly long as far as the lubricant getting back up into the intake. Something I came up with. Always thinking out of the box. Thanks so much for any input. Jim U.
A closed PCV valve is a problem for what? Increased oil consumption? Yes this is true, but there are other factors as well. A PCV valve should be replaced rather than cleaned. Spraying any sort of solvent inside of it will get inside the engine, so be careful. They are very easy to replace and are pretty cheap. It's better to replace the PCV as well as any hoses associated with it. Check your intake pipe past the breather hose and see if there are large amounts of oil inside.
