Hey Scotty. A month ago I charged my battery with a vector battery charger from Home Depot and today my mechanic said that my alternator is bad and it costs $800 to replace it. Could the battery charger have caused the alternator to go bad? I read the directions and followed the proper steps

No. Battery chargers shouldn't kill alternators. Unless it's some dirt cheap, no name POS from China (which yours isn't)
