Good evening everyone. 2001 Honda Civic LX 5-Speed with a lil over 180K miles I haven't driven it for a month now but I keep having an issue where the top alternator bolt keeps coming out even tho the thread is still good. I tried taking the bolt itself completely out and replacing with a new but I come to see its not possible. I've heard its a common problem with the 7 generation Honda Civics but is there anyway I can keep it in the alternator or would I have to replace the alternator itself to help solve my problem with the bolt?
Clean the bolt itself with as rag and the bolt hole with lacquer thinner. Use a q tip on the bolt hole. It leaves no residue, then use the blue thread locker, Permatex, Loctite or equivalent. Tighten to the specified torque -lower pivot bolt - 33 ft lbs. Upper adjusting bolt - 17 ft lbs.
are you torquing the bolt to the proper spec?
Is the belt pulley aligned and balanced properly, and bearing in good condition? Proper tension?
Loosening bolts are usually caused by excessive vibration.
Yyep
