2015 Honda CRV

Automatic Transmission

103.000 miles (problem started with less than 3000 miles)

Scotty,

Can you offer us advice on how to get our Honda CRV repaired? American Honda has left us and tens of thousands other Honda owners with vehicle that do not run properly!

We purchased a brand-new 2015 Honda CRV in early 2015   A few weeks after we purchased it the vehicle started vibrating, shaking and surging.  We were afraid the car would die, especially upon acceleration.

We took it to Darryl Waltrip Honda in Franklin, TN.   They told us that Honda American was aware of the problem and was working on a repair.  They did not write a service ticket because they said there was nothing they could do to diagnose or repair the car.   We returned the car to the dealer several times in 2015.  Each time we heard the same story.  Honda American even posted videos on the Internet explaining the problem

Finally, in late 2015 Honda America issues a “fix” for the problem.  The fix was dampers for the headrest, replacement engine mounts, new transmission mounts, and tailgate parts to mask the problem.   Over the next couple of years, they did do some software updates.  None of these “fixes” corrected the problems.  Honda America now says the vehicle is performing as designed and denies that there ever was a problem.   By the way, a “class action lawsuit” was filed against American Honda for this problem

We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.  American Honda ignored our complaint.  We contacted American Honda’s Torrance, CA headquarters to speak with the president.  The switchboard said they did not know who the president was or how to reach him.  We requested mediation and received a letter that stated that our case did not rate any further consideration due to reasons that matched exactly with the state Lemon Laws.

We have filed complaints with Tennessee Consumer Affairs.  They received the same response from American Honda that we did from mediation.  American Honda has had a rash of Class Action Lawsuits filed against them over the last 5 years for problems related to failed electronics, gasoline in engine oil, and our 2015 CRV’s problems.  The quality of the Honda products has deteriorated and the company is leaving customers holding the bag.

I wanted to add that I met a guy who is a consultant for automotive dealers’ service departments. I discussed this with him.  He told me that American Honda has implemented programs that limit the number of repairs done of vehicles when Lemon Laws could be used to force them to repair or replace these defective vehicles.

We were denied future repairs because our original factory warranty has expired.  Our vehicle is still covered by a Honda American extended warranty.

Can you offer us any advice how to get our car repaired?  There are thousands of 2015 Honda CRV owners who are still dealing with the same problems that we are.

Scotty,
We live about 30 miles from you.
TN is a great place to live.

That stinks!

They were much better when Honda imported the transmissions from Japan.

Wait, wait...what EXACTLY is your problem? Describe in details and history on the car.

@mrrangerzr1
Starting a few weeks after we purchased the car in 2015 it started vibrating, surging, and shaking. The RPMs would also surge. We were concerned that the engine would die. Darryl Waltrip Honda in Franklin, TN told us that this was a known problem that was being addressed by Honda. They told us that there was nothing they could do to correct the problem until Honda determined the cause of the problems. We called the dealer and took the car back to them on several other occasions in 2015. We received the same story; nothing we can do. No service tickets were written because they would not accept the car for repairs!
In late 2015 we received word of a "fix". This when headrest dampers were installed, new motor mounts, transmission and I believe radiator mounts. I now understand that these "fixes" were done to mask the vibrations, not correct them. After this, they did release some software updates. None of these corrected the problems! We were told that Honda was still working on the issue!
Honda placed a video on social media discussing the issue and stating they were working on a repair. They also sent us a $500 service credit. Later we were told that the vehicle was performing “as designed” and the issues we reported are “normal for this model.” Why would Honda work on fixes and send owners $500 when a vehicle is performing as it was designed?
I have read reports from the Internet that the problems revolve around the new CV transmission and the direct-injection engine that was introduced in 2015. One of the software updates was supposedly performed to stop transmission damage.
During all this, a class-action lawsuit was filed against American Honda for this problem in 2015. We did not receive any information about this since our car had already reported the problem. We did not know about the lawsuit until last year.
American Honda has said they will not do anything else to our car because our original new car warranty has expired. We still have an extended warranty through American Honda that will expire soon due to the number of miles on the car. It’s our problem!!!
American Honda has turned down all requests for us to speak with a corporation representative about this. They will not respond to our calls, emails, or letters. They will not respond to the BBB. We filed complaints with the state of TN consumer affairs department.
American Honda has had several significant problems with their vehicles in the last few years. Their standard response is that the vehicle is performing as design. Another interesting thing is that they are very careful not to do too many repairs during the time that a “Lemon Law” could be enacted that would leave them liable for repairs or replacement of the vehicles. Honda designs and builds defective vehicles then uses state and federal laws as a shield that limits their liability!
The problem has gotten worse over time. I believe that the CV transmission is slipping. If this is true, we could be facing a transmission replacement which will cost $4000 to $5000.
American Honda is not a company that can be trusted!
Any suggestions?
Need any additional info?
Thanks

OK SO...what you need to do is stop going to the dealership. The dealership you're going to is incompetent. Go to a reputable shop or find a guy like Scotty Kilmer to look over your car.

They charged you for "headrest dampers" along with the other things? They just threw a whole bunch of things at it. I bet they didn't replace anything.

This problem started in 2015 when you purchased the CRV brand new off the lot or did you buy it used? How many miles when the problem started and how many miles on it now, and how were you driving with this problem for 5 years?? It's 2020 now.

Do you have a video of the problem?
