Antifreeze and Water

I got a 2.4L 2015 Jeep Patriot Latitude 4x4 w 110k miles. Im taking it on a road trip from PA to CA in about 3 weeks and am replacing all the fluids before I go. I’ve been reading a lot about distilled vs deionized water and it seems every other source says to use the opposite from the last. Which one should I use? Or does it not really matter?

thanks!

Probably whistling at all the attractive individuals in your area..

Do you have the option of buying premixed coolant?

I would get a premixed one, but if you want to make it yourself, you can use either water. I would use distilled water, because it is cheaper if I’m not mistaken.

It doesn't matter one bit. I've been using tap water for decades. (plus antifreeze of course)

I would be more concerned about your Jeep holding together for your road trip.

Yeah haha that’s why I’m not trying to take any chances here. If something were to happen now’s probably the time. The Jeep’s been well maintained (dealership maintained, if you can call that well…it was my moms car before, and she won’t have it when I say they’re no good). Anyways, it only recently just started to make a little whistle, but nothing major yet so fingers crossed.

For coolant, why not simplify life and just use premix 50/50?  Then the question becomes a moot point.

I've never had a problem using distilled water and have been doing it for many years now. (I'm a cheapskate and mix my own 50/50 coolant.)
