Hi, i was test driving a Bmw yesterday and the oil was leaking a little bit. And when u drove it u could smell oil and burnt. Can it be something serious problem with that? And the owner hasn’t Done any maintenance on it for about half year he had it. And the cooling temp gauge does not move and i’m affraid that the car Will overheat
Walk away.
Find another BMW which doesn’t leak oil & which has been babied by its previous owner/s with complete service records since new.
Do not buy another man’s problems!
As mentioned prior. The 4th Gen+ v8 5 series is weak in almost every category even from bmw's own standpoint. The engine was not the worst of it. This was around the time the transmission were also really bad, not to mention Vanos, and it's first gen infotainment system. And crappy plastics. If you smell oil coming from the car and the cooling system doesn't work, then yes that is a very serious issue and will likely kill the car. Especially if no maintenance was done in the last half year.

This can be a red flag that the car has serious issues the owner wants to get rid of it. Run away.
Owners like to brag they have never done anything to it. Translation...it needs everything done to it.
BMWs are money pits, especially when they age. Plastic parts crack, shrink, and move causing multiple occasions to leak.
Get a nice Accord and you will be happy and keep your hard earned money.
Too many red flags, pass on it and any BMW out of warranty unless you are YouTuber mechanics like Car Wizard and LegitStreetCars who know how to work on BMWs/Mercedes (they are gurus), know where to get parts, plus get monetized using those cars in videos. But for the rest of us mortals - it’s a hard pass for a money pit of a car.
