Are 2000s Volvos a good choice?

My friend in college wants to replace his 2004 Daewoo Lacetti 1.8 with 115,000 kms (it runs okay, he got it for 600 €, I don't understand why he wants to get rid of it: it runs fine).

He has been looking at Volvos S40 and S60 with 5-cylinder diesel engines, years 2005-2009, with about 300,000 kms on average.

Should he keep his old car or buy the Volvo? Only manual transmissions, no automatics.

Is it worth buying an old car like that, even if it's a Volvo?

Well odds are the Volvo's a lot. Last a day wounds. But of course you'd have to see how those Volvos were maintained correctly. If the oil was changing, they were maintained correctly with a standard transmission they can last a long time
