Hi Scotty. I have a 1989 Honda Prelude 2.0 Si Manual with 120,000 miles. I am looking for a head gasket set but Mahle is the only I can find here in my town. Are they any good or should I look for another brand?
felpro is my go-to for gaskets
I have never had to do a head gasket, with that said, I was researching brands I could trust for components to my X5.
Elring, Victor Reinz, and Mahle made the short list. And obviously I would have to do a little more research on the specific head gasket to see if there were any failures.
It may be good to see if anyone here has first hand experience with Mahle or any other brands.
With that said, have you tried OEM from the dealer? I don't know if they would still carry it, but it doesn't hurt to check.
Mahle was at one point was a Chrysler plant in Dayton, Ohio. They laid everyone off when Chrysler closed the plant. They don't offer membership in the union until after a year, and they work 40 and 50 hours a week. When I was working across the street, we were always getting former Mahle recruits. It doesn't seem they paid their employees much. I'd probably stay away from that brand.
