Hey Scotty I was wondering is amsoil a good choice when it comes to atf for my 97 Toyota Camry le 2,2l 4 cyl 178k miles ? The fluid is starting to go dark and I was thinking of changing it but I don’t know what kind of fluid I could use
Have you looked in your manual?
Amsoil is a waste of money in my opinion.
Way over priced. Consult your owner's manual or look it up on line and use what satisfies the manufacturer's requirements.
DEXRON VI is fine to use. Amsoil.....just light your money on fire.
The owners manual says dexron 3 but they don’t really make them anymore so I need the next best thing
Dexron VI supercedes Dexron III. It's fully backwards compatible, and much more durable.
Thank you man that what says on google but really you can’t really trust google for much
I know what you mean.
Thank you for everybody’s feedback really appreciate it
To be more safe can I show y’all the color of the fluid to make sure it’s safe to change the fluid because I don’t want to destroy the transmission
I have to say that I respectfully disagree with those saying it is a waste. I have found it makes the transmissions I have used it on run much smoother, even though the transmissions are among the better ones out there, and usually don't have many problems.
I go with the old saying, the proof is in the pudding, and I have seen too many people saying the stuff is doing great in their cars, and extending the life of the trans, beyond what is normal. I also see almost nobody saying the stuff is bad, and that can't be said for almost any other transmission fluid on the market.
I have tried others, the last one being valvoline max life atf in my old 98' f-150, and it did improve the shifting a little. Then I changed out half of it with amsoil, and it was a much bigger and better difference.
I am not a mechanic, I just do a lot of work myself, and some for friends, so take that into consideration.
I just need to make Time and change the fluid we bought this car without a shifter cable so we get to sit a lot in drive and the liquid is breaking down fast I just work 56 h a week ain’t got the chance to replace that damn cable but anyway thanks for your thoughts man
I have no complaints about the "smoothness" of my transmission. And hearsay is the OPPOSITE of proof.
Unless somebody takes two identical brand new transmissions, fills them up with the fluids you're comparing, puts them in two identical cars, and drives the SAME WAY, every day, until the transmissions give up, then does an autopsy and documents everything thoroughly, then I don't believe for a second that it "extends transmission life". Anecdotes are not data.
