Audi A5 multitronic gearbox possible problems

Hello, i have an Audi A5 2008, 2.7 TDI 138.800 Miles. All services are done on time but last month i was driving and my gearbox disengage while i was driving with no strange sounds, no errors on dash. Car starts fine, i can move the gearbox lever but car doesn't move at all. I checked the oil level in transmission and seems lower than it supposed to be, no leaks and gearbox was serviced 2 years ago, at 50.000 miles intervals. Being told (by mechanics who didn't even touch or saw the car) to change the gearbox which costs around 4000 GB, same price as the car... Thank you in advance

Do you know what kind of service was done on the transmission last time it was serviced? For now, I would add ATF to the transmission and pray that it solves the issue.

That's what i'm thinking about ... they change oil and filter i suppose, it only states gearbox service on the paper so i'm just guessing here.

The thing is that you should not loose fluid. Do you see any leak? I would also keep eye on any leak.

i checked under the car, no leaks at all on or near gearbox. I believe now they just wrote that stuff on service history, didn't actually changed the oil in the gearbox. It smells burned (has a strange smell) and color is yellow'ish

The fluid should not have burnt smell in 50k miles. Do not add any fluid for now and Call them up and talk to the service manager. They should take care of their mess.

Previous owner has that info and i lost contact ...

You may find some information in the Carfax report.
