Hey Scotty!
I do realize you are not a fan of Audis, but still wish to ask you:
What do you think about the 2014 B8.5 RS5 with the 4.2 FSI V8? I am looking to buy one used. Any advice (other than don't.. :D) what to look for? Any experience you have with these?
Thank you!
I think you will get one answer in here: "Do not buy". If you look for another answer, look for Audi forums.
the engine uses direct injection , which we know is a flawed design that leads to carbon buildup on the intake, so it it will require expensive induction cleaning on a regular basis.
The timing chains develop oiling starvation in the variable valve apparatus leading to chatter and misfire. It necessitates an R&R of the engine and transmission, then separating them to gain access to the afflicted parts for repair. VERY expensive
It has a complex AWD drivetrain which will be very expensive to maintain as it ages.
In other words, "do not buy".
the V8's are pretty good but they are notorious for carbon build-up. Also on the RS models, they have that fancy dynamic ride control suspension and those are notorious for breaking down and it's big bucks to fix them. I would probably buy that as a weekend car if you have the money, but not as a daily.
