Automatic Car stalls at stop like not depressing the clutch

  • My 1995 Pontiac Sunfire stalls at stop like when you don't push in the clutch...but it's automatic! It started this today. I had to knock it into neutral when stopping, then let it drift a little, then drop it into drive an give it a lot of gas. It seemed like it was starting in a higher gear...maybe 2nd. The car has 122k on it and started acting strange a day after putting a new abs wheel sensor on it. I'm already looking at a used transmission swap. I thought torque converter, but my mechanic says clutch pack. It's like it won't go into neutral at stops, but it shifts like it's grinding a little. Advice?

Well, I would have never bought one of those in the first place. It certainly sounds like your transmission and or your torque converter is going bad. Get another opinion from a transmission mechanic if you want to make sure that's the problem
