Greetings,
My Toyota Camry won’t shift into 3rd gear unless I let go of the gas pedal. It shifts into 1st and 2nd gear smoothly but it won’t shift to 3rd, it just revs it will only shift when I release the gas pedal. I checked the transmission fluid level and it’s good and it’s not dirty. Any idea what might be causing this?. Merry Christmas 🎄
Regards,
Clarification: Year and mileage?
A 25 year old car that's never had it's transmission fluid and filter changed is bound to have serious problems. It's supposed to be serviced every 30-40,000 miles.
How do you think your engine would be running if you hadn't changed its oil and filter for 25 years?
It doesn't matter how the fluid looks. When was the filter and fluid last changed? What mileage?
1996 camry never changed transmission fluid. 64k miles
Trans fluid should be changed every 60k/5 years. Odds are the fluid hasn't been properly lubricating the transmission and you have internal damage because of that.
Could be time for a rebuild/replacement. I'd have a transmission shop take a look at it and see what they say.
