Avoiding Eco Booom

  • Hi Scotty, I have a 2021 Ford Mustang Eco Boost 2.3 high performance package. I believe it’s the same engine in the Focus R. It also has a turbo. The car is completely stock. Ford recommends motor craft 5w50. The vehicle is direct injection. My question is what is the best oil for a direct injection turbo car. Ford seems to have a higher Noack % in their oil and higher Ash level then other brands like Amsoil and Mobil 1? Also would you recommend a reputable catch can as in the UPR duel passenger side or is it a waste of time. I’m concerned about throwing Cel codes. Thank you for your time Scotty!

The best oil is what the manufacturer recommends.  Change out your PCV valve with each oil change.  Forget the catch can.

Make sure installing a catch can won't void your warranty.

Catchcans are generally installed in line with the pcv valve and are a modification of the vehicle emission control system which is illegal.
