Backfiring trouble

I have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma prerunner with a 2.7 L 4 cylinder engine, and it has about 191K miles. It is pre owned, and I don’t know the full service history of it. Recently in January I noticed that it sometimes starts to shake and then backfires, after that usually goes back to normal. I have already replaced the fuel filter and was wondering what my next step should be? (No recent trouble codes other than an evap code in November of last year)

Either the ignition timing is off (stretched timing chain) or it's running too rich at times ( bad fuel injectors).

I do know from the scan tool I have it is running slightly rich. I’ll check the fuel injectors and maybe even the fuel pressure regulator. Thank you very much.
