Bad idle

Hi Scotty,

Mickey from the Philippines. I have a Ford Fiesta 2011, Manual Transmission and has 88kms on it. It runs fine, starts right up but the idle goes down whenever the AC is on. If the AV is turned off, everything is fine. I've cleaned the Air Filter and the Electronic Throttle Body but the problem remains. It dont think mine has an IACV. Do you think it's the compressor going bad?

Thanks a lot!

I believe there is a switch that is supposed to detect load and make the car idle up. It may be faulty. If not check all the major grounds and make sure they have proper connection.

@cjbman
Hi, what switch might that be?

Looks like these ones are all computer controlled so it all has to do with what the ecu is seeing.. definitely an electrical issue though here.

Check the voltage when you turn it on if its a big power draw its most likely a pad ac pump or compressor what ever you want to call it. It good be a bad alt to.

Thanks, I just replaced my alternator a year ago. But I'll check for both.

Elelctrical problem for sure.

Load test the battery and alternator, if they are good, then odds are that the AC compressor is going out.

@yaser
Thank you! I'll do that. I'll update this thread after.
