Battery

Would it be OK to take a battery out of one car and put it in another just to see if it will start? I tried jumpstarting it on several occasions with two different cars and two different sets of jumper cables but it will not start.

You can.  Just get the cables right.

But it's probably something else wrong.

Does it turn over when jumped?

No it only clicks like a dead battery and it looses all power ones the jumper cables are disconnected.

You won't hurt anything, but it sounds like the starter is out.

Thank you, I think it’s only the battery because the car is been sitting for months. But I will try a battery from another car.

And the other battery didn’t work 🙁

Maybe the starter isn't getting enough power. I would try a few things first before implicating the starter.

  • make sure all electrical connections are clean and tight
  • make sure the boosting vehicle is running and I would even rev it up to 1200 RPM or so.
  • disconnect the suspect battery. If it's got internal shorts it might be dragging down the system.
  • put a meter on the starter positive stud when you crank and make sure it's getting the full 12.7V
