Replacing headlamp assemblies on 2015 RAV4. Do I need one of those devices to plug in so settings aren't lost when battery is offline.  Never had issue in past with my other RAV4 2012.

You should not have to disconnect the battery to replace headlights (or other lights). Just do it with the key in OFF, unplug, plug in new.

Why disconnect the battery when replacing headlamp assembly?

Manual said to disconnect negative post

The manual has to be overly safe, because there are people in this world who put superglue in their hair and then sue the manufacturer. I bet it tells you to wear gloves and glasses while changing the headlight too.

Lol. Face shield and apron required too.

Might as well go the whole hog & wear full PPE when working on automobiles.

Nah there is no need for that.

You only need to d/c the battery when working on things that are always live (such as alternator) or things that might injure you. (radiator fan etc.)
