Hi Scotty, Friday, my honda 2004 crv with 80,000 miles was runnig while parked when all of a sudden the dash gages went dark and the engine stopped. AAA came and jump started it. I was then on my way and it went dead again. I had it towed to my regular mechanic. He said it needed a new alternator which he installed. I went to Advance Auto Parts this morning and told them the battery lite was on and asked them to check the battery. They said the battery was bad and replaced it per warranty, no cost. BUT, the battery lite is still glowing red. What can I do to get the battery light off? Thanks for your channel.
The battery light means your alternator isn't charging properly. You probably got a bad alternator. They make subpar alternators at Advance Auto. The only thing saving you is that you have a limited lifetime warranty.
Shouldn't scanner detect that an alternator is not working properly?

No. The Check Engine Light is for emissions related things, mainly. Do you have a scan tool? Plug it in and scroll until you see a voltage reading. It should be over 12.7 volts but not more than about 14.7 volts.
Switch to live data.
The voltage reading is 14 volts.
Is the battery light still on?
Yes.
Rev the engine up and down while looking at live data.
I will try that. Thanks.
