Is belt dressing legit? Waste of money?

Ran into this stuff at the dealer.

If a belt is squealing and/or slipping it needs to be replaced, not sprayed with this gunk.

Snake oil bunk.

I have never heard of that, and therefore never use it;  then again I walk past all those shelves full of dubious products that are competing for your hard-earned money.  This is at the dealership, too, so even worse.

I had some time to kill while waiting for a car to be serviced. And was just meandering the aisles of the parts department.

I was SHOCKED to see it. And I’ve walked down these aisles tons of times too, never really paying attention.

I am surprised at the dealership those cans don’t literally say “Snake Oil” on them.  I can see a meme or spoof on that.

Haha.

seems it's for obsolete neoprene belts (?)

Maybe! Hell if I know.

FWIW, they were collecting dust on the bottom shelf. Everything else on the top shelf seemed in higher demand and turnover.
