Best battery for classic car

I have a 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 XL fastback, with a 352 automatic. All original with a generator (12 volt car). I just had the engine rebuilt. Upgraded to roller cam, adjustable rocker arms, 650 cfm 4b carb, dual plane intake manifold, hsi distributor and bored 30 over.  Block, crank and heads are original. What battery do you suggest that is known for quality and what type of battery do you recommend. Also, what’s your thoughts on the odyssey performance AGM?

Not a fan of the Odyssey. Now. That's an old car so I would stick with a regular flooded battery. And if you don't drive it much I would put a battery tender on it. All the batteries are getting super expensive. I used to like the duralast but they really overpriced. Now. I look local and see who's got the best sealing batteries and I buy them nowadays. Last time I bought them from rural King in Tennessee which is a farmer supply store and they sold me a good battery for 65 bucks

@scottykilmer thank you Scotty. I live in rural Oklahoma and I’ll try farmers supply here, I never thought of that.

@garys-galaxie If you have a WalMart nearby they are also very competitive on battery prices.

Depending on what CCA you need, you might consider getting an EverStart Walmart battery. I have one in my '79 Pontiac Catalina, and it only cost $50, but that was in either 2020 or 2021.

The fuel pump went out while I was driving and I was in a really bad area to break down. Over the course of an hour, I troubleshooted and tried to start it so many times that the battery died. I called AAA when I figured out it was the fuel pump, and they came and towed it. I put the battery on a battery charger and it started right up after the recharge and fuel pump replacement.

@justin-shepherd I think WalMart's budget line of batteries is up to about $70 now, which is not bad. I also heard it mentioned by Derek on "Vice Grip Garage" that O'Reilly's has a budget line of batteries that they don't advertise, you have to ask for them at the counter.

That's interesting about O'Reilly, I would think being an auto parts store, they'd crank everything up to make money. Batteries are their highest profit margin.

As far as the increased cost I guess it depends how you look at it. If the EverStart battery went from $50 to $70, that's actually 40% increase in price, lol. I yearn for the days when dollars were as good as gold. That day is long, long gone.
