I'm looking to buy a C6 Corvette as a weekend joyride and a project car. What do you guys think is the best generation, what to look for when buying one, and what is a reasonable price?
C6 means its the 6th generation of corvette (05-13), are you asking what model years are best/ ones to avoid?
Here's some info on year-to-year https://www.carcomplaints.com/Chevrolet/Corvette/
You can use this site to look up year-specific problems https://repairpal.com/2007-chevrolet-corvette/problems
A reasonable price? My understanding is that Corvette owners tend to be quite unreasonable, thinking that THEIR car is the best and mot desirable example. Nevertheless, go to autotrader.com to see what folks are asking for them in your area, given year, mileage, equipment, etc., then negotiate from there. But at least, for a sports car, the parts prices and availability are relatively reasonable.
Whether it’s a C5, C6, or a C7, a clutch job on a Manual version of those will run at least $2,000 since the whole torque tube and drivetrain has to come out from the engine all the way to the rear transmission (it’s a 50/50 weight balance with a transaxle setup). All generations of corvettes also have finicky electrical gremlins. And parts, being a performance vehicle, expect to pay Corvette tax for them. Hopefully, you can do a lot of the work yourself to save a lot of money.
