Best heavy duty American truck?

Hello everyone, my stepfather is seeking to buy a heavy duty work truck. He specifically likes American trucks so I'm trying to see what would be his best option. He is not sure if he wants gas or diesel. He doesn't plan on towing anything large but will use it to tow occasionally.

I've been looking at Scotty's videos but he seems to say positive things about the Ram 2500, either the HEMI or the Cummins. He said they're better than the 1500s but he also said the same thing about Chevy with their 2500HD 6.0L trucks. I couldn't find anything much on Ford but Scotty has said that Ford makes the best trucks so I'm confused on what exactly is good.

My stepfather would prefer an automatic and ideally he would want something that lasts with minimal issues and of course that has a good tranny. He does live up north so of course he'll watch out for rust, but aside from that what would be the best truck for him to get between Ford, Chevy and Ram? If you could tell me whats the best gas option and the best diesel option. (Yes I did see Scotty said that Cummins is better than the GM Duramax) But I don't know anything about the Powerstroke diesel or how good they are. I appreciate the help

Not much to choose from these days when it comes to trucks. Neither American or import. It's a travesty all around.

Watch 'The Car Guy Online' youtube channel for new truck advice.

@imperator My bad I forgot to clarify used trucks, not new. If anyone else is watching I meant to say used trucks
