Hey Scotty,
My wife and I are looking into buying a fifth wheel and will need a pickup to pull it. I've been looking at one ton, diesel, single wheeled trucks but want your opinion on which brands and years you'd recommend.
Thanks for always putting great content on youtube!
Welcome new member,
Take a look in the search bar above for more opinions.
If I had to buy a 1-ton today, I’d consider the Ram 3500 with the Cummins as best of breed. However, I think @michael1234 makes a good point about the Rams having good engines but weak electricals, so it’s not a slam dunk. And other factors like dealer support could sway the decision. For example, my local GMC dealer is a small family-owned shop with strong ethics, which would weigh heavily in my decision.
BTW, if you are considering used, find your best local independent diesel shop and ask what they work on the most, and get that.
Good luck!
In my experience stay away from dodge the engine is awesome but the trans/body/computers are junk. If I was picking I would go with a 17-22 6.7 if you want a newer truck "new ones are ugly" My uncles is at 180,000 miles in Michigan. Because of the aluminum and oil rust proofing no rust/corrosion on the body or frame "it works trust me" the only problem he had was one of the dpf sensors went bad 250$ fix "I'd recommend deleting it chevy, ford or dodge; "the dpf destroys those engines" But if you want a really good truck you can always depend on get a 95-02 f350 my brother has a 2001 with 400,000 and he pulled 80,000 pounds of bails never had a issue.
