Recommend a truck for towing

Hiya Scotty!

Can you tell me which used 4x4 truck you would recommend for towing a skid steer and horse trailer, something that is reliable and easy to work on if maintained? I was thinking of a Dodge Ram with a Cummins engine that could be converted to Biodiesel, but I'm also considering a Toyota Tundra or Tacoma. One old enough that won't have all those invasive electronics like the black boxes & GPS Trackers they install in cars going back 15 or 20 years or so. Year doesn't matter for me...just need a reliable work horse. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Scotty, I watch your channel everyday! {pear}

Your best bet would be a Tacoma or Tundra, whichever one fits your needs best.

At that age, you might also consider a Nissan Frontier (which is an inferior truck but still pretty reliable but a whole lot cheaper to buy than the given two) if it fits your towing needs.

The Cummins diesel engine is a great engine, the rest of the car is what Scotty would refer to as a pile of junk.

Personally if you want a cheap easy vehicle to work on my experience has lead me to suggest highly either a 2002 -07 chevy silverado they have decent work space and you can customize them to improve gas mileage a lot. If your looking for a long lasting truck or suv I'm gonna have to go with a late to early 2000s Toyota Tacoma they have manual option and some Diesel depends on where you get them. Also if you want a decent suv that won't cost you an arm and a leg get a chevy blazer LS they don't cost much and parts are really common. Just make sure again to have someone overlook the vehicle check the suspension and look for rush or essive wear on the frame or body. And I mean if your looking for a good offroading toy that can do some hauling a bronco is decent or a chevy cheyenne is a good customizeable option.

Hope this helps slighty!

I have seen those Cummins diesels paired with the Asin transmissions go a long time. As long you're ok with pretty much everything electrical breaking but having a great powertrain go with the Dodge.
