Best way to attach plastic window trim

Hi,

I have a 2006 Lexus RX 400h.  The plastic window trim fell off of the left rear quarter window.

I ordered some new window trim from eBay.

What is the best way to attach the new window trim so that it won't fall off again, yet it can be removed and replaced if it cracks?

I have seen kits on eBay that include double-sided tape, but maybe a caulk adhesive would work better?

Also, what should I use to prep the surface in the first image?  I used a Scotch-brite pad on the rear of the window trim as well as the attachment area, but maybe it would be good to use a solvent to clean both surfaces?  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

3M makes an adhesive speciffically for trim. Auto Zone, Advance Auto, etc carries it.

What's it called? Do you know the brand name or the part number?

Any two-sided weather and heat resistant VHB tape. 3M, Tessa,...  whatever you can get

I’ve had great success with 3M VHB. Browse around for various thickness sizes to suit your application -

Nice, thanks.

Looks like VHB tape is pretty strong.

Can VHB tape be removed without too much trouble, supposing the replacement trim cracks and I need to replace everything all over again?

I have tried removing it after a few months of installation and it came out without any fuss. I haven’t tried removing it yet, after years of use though.
